Suddenly,I was violently pushed off her. I crashed into the sharp edge of the sink, and a searing pain shot through my waist.
Lucas lifted Mia,roaring,“Lily,are you insane?”
My thoughts returned.I realized what I’d done.
I almost killed her.
“No,no,I didn’t mean to—”I stammered.
“You’re a monster!I saw what you did,and you’re still lying!”Lucas’s eyes blazed with disgust and disappointment.
His gaze crushed me,shame engulfing me.I wanted to disappear.
The voices returned,relentless:
Lily,you’re disgusting.
I was just messing with you.
You’re so stupid,trash,filthy.
I clutched my head,screaming.
Lucas froze, frowning.“What’s wrong with you?You still won’t admit it? The hospital clearly didn’t fix you.”
“No,please,I can’t go back!”I knelt,banging my head,begging.“I’ll be good,Lucas,I promise.”
He stared as blood trickled from my forehead, stunned.
Mia,weak in his arms,rasped,“She’s crazy,Lucas!Send her back!”
I shook my head,panicked.“My mind’s fixed.I can’t go back.”
Run,escape,get out!
I scrambled to my feet, but Lucas grabbed me.“Where do you think you’re going?”
His touch felt repulsive, like a cockroach clinging to me, dragging me back to hell.
I bit his arm, hard. He yelped, letting go of me.
I crashed through the door,laughing maniacally.“I’m free!I’m free!I don’t have to go back!”
In the mansion,Mr.Hayes and Mom saw me run barefoot, arms outstretched, their faces paling.
Servants whispered,“She just got out of the asylum, and she’s gone crazy again…”
