Chapter 52

Liam's POV

Making myself and Moon visible just before I reached the pack gate, I stepped in to see a few guards stand at my entry.

Kia rushed towards me, he looked concerned at first, then a subtle frown graced his face as he stepped closer to me.

'Who is the lady Alpha Liam?" One of the guards, who couldn't stop his curiosity, stepped closer to me.

'Back the fuck off!" I hissed, and he flinched, but not without trying to see Moon's face; I saw his eyes widen.

Another guard tapped his shoulder. He looked at me before whispering into his ears, and his eyes widened, too. I felt a headache coming. Where do these men learn to gossip?

Looking away from them, I looked at Kia whose eyes were still on the sleeping Moon.

'What are you waiting for?"

'Alpha?"

'Get me someone to help with her clothing and freshening her up."

Stepping back with the subtle frown still on his face, he bowed a little before heading off. I didn't bother to look back at the men still saying things in a hushed tone, I walked towards my quarters.

Not bothering to open the door, I stepped through the door, hoping that no one saw me.

Laying her on the bed, she gripped tightly to my hand refusing to let go.

'Liam?" She called again and I wondered if this was how she called me in her sleep over there.

'I am here Sweet," I responded, climbing the bed to sleep beside her.

My other hand caressed her face till she relaxed, softening her hold on me and falling into deep sleep again.

Carefully, I removed the bonnet off her head revealing a mass of curly brown hair. My breath caught in my throat remembering mistaking Harper for Moon. Stupid me! She is nothing compared to Moon.

Taking a few strands of her hair, I sniffed it. It smelt like sweat and dirt, but I didn't care; it still scented like her, even with the mask of other unpleasant smells.

I could only imagine what she had gone through repeatedly in the hands of Diana and that simp Aiden.

She looked thinner than usual, raising her shirt a little to see if there were any other things I should note; my eyes widened at the numerous scars I saw.

I heard the familiar ringing in my ears again, and I knew I needed to bask myself for the next thing I would see; I knew it wouldn't be pleasant.

I got blinded by anger, thinking about the sufferings she must have gone through securing all these scars.

'Did Diana take part in this?" I questioned no one but my brain took me back to her non-hesitant behavior in throwing a glass of wine at Moon.

I clenched my jaw, looking at her delicate, innocent-looking face. Aside from the thinness of her face, you wouldn't know she went through something this traumatizing.

Suddenly, I didn't want to see more than the little I already saw.

A knock interrupted my action, the second knock came, then the third, and Kia came in bringing a woman with completely grayed-out hair with him.

She looked at me for a while before stretching her lips into a smile. At first, I didn't recognize her, but after seeing her smile, the memory came flooding in.

'Aunty Olivia!" I stood up from the bed that instant, but not without making sure I didn't get to interrupt Moon's sleep.

'Liam." She simply said, waiting with open hands till I got to her and gave her a bear hug.

'You are all good." Her voice was a little shaky with emotions.

'I miss you, Aunty," I said despite myself and I heard Kia chuckle before straightening like he didn't just do something.

'You don't show it though." She placed her hands on my chest before her nose wrinkled.

'Ouch! Auntie?" I made sure not to be loud enough to wake Moon.

She had hit my chest hard and somewhere within me, I knew why she did that.

'You still smoke." Her brows were furrowed.

'It's not like I can drink," I told her with a shrug and she sneered playfully.

'Neither is good." She pushed me out of the way, and I let her, glaring playfully at Kia, who just looked away. He was uncomfortable, I could tell.

'I heard there was another child to babysit." She walked towards the bed.

'What is wrong with her?"

I ran towards Moon to explain a little of what happened to her when I saw her eyes widen at the sight of Moon. She stood still, bending her head this way and that as if trying to figure out something totally strange.

I watched her bring her hand to her chest, then to her head before she squatted down and let out a shrill scream startling Moon awake from her sleep.

'Aunty Olivia?" I ran to her.

Kia did, too, but this time, she was thrown into a catatonic state, her lips parted and slightly moving.

She had been like this at the slightest trigger ever since I rescued her from my dad. He had her brainwashed and her memories taken from her for reasons known to him.

I tried to put her to sleep like I would do, my eyes meeting Kia's worried eyes.

What could have gone wrong?

Why would Moon be a trigger?
