Chapter 49

Thankfully, Aiden had left her to herself after yesterday's incident. This time, she was dressed in free black pants and a shirt without footwear to pad the sole of her foot. Her brown curly hair was hidden in a bonnet, and she was sweating all through.
'Should I just go back and take my bath?" She questioned herself looking down on her dusty feet.
She looked back at the pack house and shook her head at the possibility of being stopped thereby delaying and foiling her plans.
Pretending to clean the dirt off the pathway from the gate, Moon found her way to the gate and got prepared to sneak out.
Standing in a blind spot and observing Moon with a glass of transparent liquid in her hand, she bit the corner of her lips on seeing Moon sneak a glance at the pack house.
'What is she planning again?" Diana asked herself, hiding her wicked grin behind the glass.
Aiden isn't left out in observing Moon's suspicious movement, he might as well rush towards her to shake sense into her.
When she made for the gate, he cursed out loud, walking briskly towards the gate but making sure to crosscheck if he was being watched.
His carefulness paid off when he saw Diana catwalk towards the gate with a glass of something in her hand. She seemed to be having fun and there was nothing he could do about it now.
Moon opened the gate with her head bowed, her heart thudding, and her lips pressed against each other.
On sighting a well-polished moccasin, Moon held her breath before looking up at a fast speed. Her shocked green orbs locked themselves with his angry yellow orbs.
'Liam?" She squeaked and searched his eyes and face.
His nose flared when he looked at her unkemptness.
'What were you doing? Tilling the garden?" His lips raised in a sneer.
'Liam." She called again, her lips pushing themselves forward in a pitiful pout, she was about to cry.
'Was it fun? Was it fun acting like you were abducted so I could act crazy looking for you!?"
'You are shouting." Moon whimpered looking back at the slightly closed gate.
'So what?" He asked and she felt the hurt expand in her heart.
'Let's go over there," Moon said pointing towards the tree across the street.
She heard him scoff, looking in the direction she pointed at.
Moon looked up at him in question, her eyes were beginning to get glassy. She made to hold his hand but he shifted.
'Don't touch me with that." Came a spear that pierced her heart.
'Liam?" She called again as if not believing he was hurling all these hurtful words at her.
Looking at the tree, in Liam's head all he saw was her kissing a random guy so passionately when she was supposed to be out to meet him.
'I won't go over there. Say all you want to say here." Liam level of nonchalance made her shoulders sag.
'I am sorry." Moon bowed her head, folding her toes to hide the dirt in them. She was suddenly aware of her appearance.
'You are sorry?" He repeated her words, and she looked up at him again; she saw derision on his face.
'You are sorry?" He asked again, commanding a reply, and she nodded slowly, unsure if that was what he wanted.
'You are sorry for standing me up for days without end?" Liam asked like he couldn't believe she could simply say she was sorry to cover up for everything she had done so far.
'Allow me to explain, Liam." She pleaded, her eyes were imploring.
He looked at her miserable state and thought of the worst thing she could have gone through to make her appear like this, emaciated and full of dirt.
'Allow you to explain?" His voice had a bit of venom attached to it and it made her heart hurt.
'Fine, explain why you kissed him," Liam asked, raising his head high and opening his eyes to see her.
Moon's heart stilled, she only stared and didn't produce any words. The memory from that night replayed in her head again.
'You…you saw it?" She had her palm folded as she stared back at Liam's waiting posture. He was dressed in a black shirt too and ironed and neat plain trousers.
Liam looked at her face for a bit before laughing out loud, putting his left hand on his chest, his shoulders quaking in accordance.
'You looked surprised."
'I didn't mean to do that Liam. I swear, I didn't mean to do that."
'But you kissed him like you were starved. You kissed him like your life depended on it!"
Moon fell to her knees at his last words; she started crying again, her forehead on the floor; she was almost kissing the dust.
'I thought the gate was closed, I thought you were still waiting for me." Her words were almost muffled, he had to strain his ears to hear her.
His jaw worked, his hands in his pocket as he just stared at her silently, fighting against his true desire.
'He is the guy I told you about, the guy I confess to." She declared and he paused, connecting the dots, the eye connection before the gate got shut.
'I had tried coming to see you but he kept stopping me. He has stalked me before that night and knew I had come to see you."
He believed her but what he couldn't understand was her leaning in to return his kiss.
'You kissed him back." He stated it wasn't a question, nor did he need clarification.
She looked up at him again, still in a kneeling position.
'Back then, my primal instinct took over. I fought back, but I guess it was too late; you didn't get to see that part."
Moon strengthened her resolve, standing up and not bothering to dust herself; she didn't need to keep begging or explaining. If he wasn't going to believe her; she would rather let it go and bear the hurt of it.
Liam watched her. He believed her but he needed to hear more from her.
'Where are you going?" He held her hand, stopping her from entering the gate.
'Inside." Came Moon's curt reply.
Losing the last person who genuinely wished her well and kept her hope alive killed her drive to be normal. She decided there and then that she would live her life enduring everything thrown at her till she left for good.
'You…"He started but didn't have the heart to continue his torture.
'Just stay, please." Liam pleaded, holding her hand gently not minding the dirt in it.
'I was just angry, Moon; I was angry you kissed someone else and not me." He started, turning her to face him.
'I was angry because you didn't fight back." He said looking deeply into her eyes, drawing her closer to himself.
'My clothes, they are…"
'I don't mind." Liam cut her short, wrapping his hand around the small of her waist.
'I missed you, Moon. A lot." His voice became husky, as he ran his thumb over her lower lips.
Moon felt the tingle on his thumb, she felt her inner thigh being set on fire just by his touch. Closing her eyes, she deeply inhaled. He had a unique scent, a mixture of cigarettes and wood. He smelt woody and it was intoxicating.
'Before anything, what happened? Why are you like this?"
'I was accused of stealing by Diana and her group of friends." Moon whose eyes were now opened but dreamy said
Liam's brow furrowed at the mention of ‘Diana'. Not wanting to keep her standing by the gate, he kept his questions for later, grabbing her hands and walking away from the gate.
'Where are we going, Liam?"
'To my pack." He replied not bothering to look back.
He only did so when she paused, refusing to be moved.
'What?"
'I need to finish my punishment for today." She blinked rapidly not wanting to meet his eyes.
'Punishment?" His ears had this weird ringing sound playing in them.
His mate was serving a punishment for what she knew nothing about.
'Fuck that lecture Moon, you are coming with me to my pack."
'But my Alpha…"
'I, too, am an Alpha, and I won't let my mate be subjugated to such rubbish." Liam declared, focusing his gaze on the gate as if the gate itself were his worst enemy.
'If the Alpha of The Silverstone pack has a problem with me claiming my mate, he should meet me, the Alpha of the Bloodmoon pack."
Immediately after he finished his declaration, Liam and Moon heard a loud clap from the gate.
