Chapter 29

Diana? She mentioned her name in the passing, but I held onto that while pretending not to hear her. What was it she was spewing about Moon?
She looked familiar and malicious; I know I shouldn't trust her, but how could I not? After getting stood up by my mate and stumbling upon her kissing another man.
'She filled my head with a lot of nonsense," I said grabbing my hair.
But on saying that, I wonder who did. Moon or Diana?
Did Moon fabricate tales to make me pity her? Love her?
Or, is Diana the right one? After all, I can't wipe away the fact that there are bits of truth in her words.
After that night, standing up with extreme hurt and heartache, I vowed never to set foot there anymore. Moon, Diana, and the Silverstone pack can all go to hell.
Walking back home wasn't as easy as I thought. Heartbreak was the last thing I expected to experience, but I did experience it: not being able to sleep, not being able to eat well enough, losing interest in things, and wanting so badly to go back to her.
'You should be grateful she didn't accept the mate bond right away; it would have been worse than this," Kia said, standing in my dark room heavily scented with smoke from my cigarettes.
'Should I really?" I asked him.
'Yes, Alpha." He said with a little bow but wise enough to keep his distance.
'Did you do what I asked you to do?" I asked, exhausting the cigarettes in my hand.
He shifted on his foot and cleared his throat a bit, and I paused to study him.
'Lying to me won't take you down the right path, Kia," I said in warning beforehand.
After establishing a level of trust enough to make Kia my Beta, I let him into one of my biggest secrets – being born with an ability or maybe abilities.
Having him as my right-hand man, I knew his life would always be in danger, so making one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make in all my years of living, I passed a part of my abilities to him through giving him my blood and crystalizing some and gifting it to him as a pendant.
Kia could become invisible and pass through solid surfaces after that, but not without setting boundaries to avoid disasters and overknowledge of certain things.
Using his ability to my advantage, I told him to go and observe what was happening with Moon in her pack.
'Why are you even doing this Alpha?" He suddenly asked, heaving with restrained effort to stop himself from walking away.
Giving a downward grin, I shrugged.
'You have never been in love before right?" I asked him.
'You have never had a mate, right?"
'Even…"
'You won't understand till you do," I said, opening the almost empty pack of cigarettes to get another one only to find out it was empty.
'Excessive smoking won't do anything good to your lungs Alpha." He told me.
'After this discussion, get me another pack," I said, stretching my body against the length of my bed.
'Now, what was your discovery?"
'Alpha…" He started, his brows drawing together.
'I know you don't like my mate," I said, and his head shot up to look at me; his eyes got shifty before he started blinking rapidly.
'Surprised? You'd have to change that mindset of yours. I am waiting." This time, my hands went beneath my head to give it a raise.
'She… she…" He said with difficulty.
'She what!?" I raised my voice, sitting up abruptly to look intensely at him; he was beginning to make me get irritated.
With difficulty, he told me of how she tried to open the gate and I felt my dead heart begin to beat. Was she trying to open the door to come look for me?
He continued to say how she had enough time to escape but started dilly-dallying for some reason.
What!?
Then this guy, who fit the description I saw the last day I went towards the Silverstone's gate, came in and hugged her to himself. From the look of things, according to Kia, he was begging.
'From the look of things? What the fuck do you mean from the look of things Kia!? Weren't you there to hear their conversations?" I asked my hand clutching unto my beddings.
'I was so disgusted to keep watching," Kia said with his head bowed.
I had enough patience stored in me to get to the end of this report because I would have slammed his head against the wall at this statement of his.
'What happened after that?" I questioned, looking at him to capture every one of his emotions, not wanting to miss out on even one of them.
'He…"
He didn't hear their conversations but he perfectly described how Moon was carried away and straddled by this guy.
This was the point where I began to doubt his report.
'It seemed like they were having sex." He said, still not looking at me.
Jumping from my bed, I ran towards Kia, and before I knew what I wanted to do to him, my hands were wrapped strongly around his neck before pushing him towards the wall.
'Kia! What did you just say?"
'It seemed like..."
'It seemed like again!?" I yelled to his face and he closed his eyes, wrinkling his nose like he couldn't stand the odor from my mouth.
'Lie with pride if you want to," I told him, shaking him as I repeatedly hit him against the wall.
'Believe me if you want to." I heard him reply with an edge to his voice.
Before I could put more pressure on his neck, he liquidated in my hand only to materialize behind me.
'I could stick a knife to your back now, Alpha Liam, but I won't because I owe a lot of things to you." He said, the threat in his voice not subtle.
'What?" My tongue kept sticking out in my cheek as I laughed, a mirthless laughter.
'Don't let an ordinary woman bring this division between us Alpha." He said with heavy pretense to care but I knew more than that.
'I can continue with the report if you want." He said with his hand behind his back, his smile false and forced.
My chest suddenly felt too small to accommodate air. Why must I always get betrayed? I needed him still so I will just play my cards right.
'No, thank you," I said, waving my hand in front of my face.
Nodding as I had just had a deep revelation about something, I walked back to my bed, lying on it with my legs crossed, my hands under my head, and my eyes closed.
'The pack needs you, Alpha Liam; snap out of this pretty soon." His voice sounded perfunctory; it disgusted me.
'Meanwhile I would throw a party just for you to loosen up and come back to your real self." He said and I opened my eyes at that to see him smile at me and walk out, not through the door, but through the wall as if trying to rub his ability on my face.
