Looking into his eyes, she was almost deceived for a moment that he was sincere. At this moment, she noticed something she had been blind to all along.
He had only ever used the word ‘like'* around her and not ‘love,' not to mention his indifference to her being bullied, his joining in the fun of making a complete mockery of her, and his acting like he didn't know her at all.
'You disgust me." Moon spat out glaring hard at him.
'What did you just say?" He asked, taking a step closer to her with his eyes red and wide open.
'You claim to LIKE me," Moon said, a chortle escaping her lips despite the pain she was in.
'I do like you, and there is no need to put it down for some previously homeless bastard." He said with his lips lifted like he had some nuts loosed.
Moon's hands itched to smack his face at his tagging Liam a homeless bastard. Swallowing the harsh words to avoid any rash reaction from him, she said instead.
'Who in your position will allow me to keep getting bullied?" She asked, her eyes glassy and red, the puffiness from earlier growing bigger.
'I try my best to put her in place behind your back." He said with a pained expression.
'The least you can do is appreciate my efforts." He said.
'You mean by kissing her and allowing her hands to roam freely around your body?" Moon asked in a hard voice.
She knew she was taking a risk bringing that up but she needed to be far from him and as soon as possible.
He came closer, and then his free hand lifted into the air as if to smack her, and Moon shut her eyes tightly, anticipating his hit, but it never came.
Pounding the air faintly, he kept his hand to his side.
'You don't know everything." He said finally.
'Same here." She said, allowing the tears to finally leave her eyes.
'You claim to like me but you can't even protect me from them."
'I…"
'You join in the mockery instead," Moon said, watching him close his eyes with a huge sigh as his hand ruffled his hair.
'If only you give me a chance to explain, you would understand the reason for my actions." He said, his brows drawn together while his free hand did the furious demonstration.
'Exactly, if only you gave me the chance to express myself, you would understand the reason behind my wanting to… oowww!" Moon exclaimed in pain and tears as his hand around her wrist went even tighter.
She was finally convinced that he was doing that on purpose.
With tears blurring her eyes, she looked at the outline of his image, swallowing back a curse she said brokenly. 'Just allow me to go."
'You need to see that I care about you." He said, desperation laced in his voice.
To avoid seeing her hand snapped off and seen on the floor, she nodded to his words before fully bursting into a heart-wrenching wail.
Shocked by her action, Aiden began trembling. 'Are you okay?" He asked, concern suddenly in his eyes.
She only kept wailing but was careful not to make it too loud so as not to attract the attention of others.
As if seeing he was holding her wrist for the first time, he let go of it as if scalded, and she almost found herself on the rough floor.
Taking her left wrist into her right hand, she examined the redness of it and the shooting pain that accompanied it later.
'Did I hurt you?" He asked, coming closer to her but she put a distance between them.
Staring at the large red mark, her throbbing vein and pulse, a little opening of her flesh, and the feel of the hurt both physically, emotionally, and mentally, she peered at him from her soft lashes. It would probably be the most hateful stare she had given anyone in her life.
'I HATE YOU." She said with emphasis on every word but said it calmly that even she felt the impact of the words.
Aiden, who was about to come to her, with his hand containing something she could make out as a tube probably containing something to ease the pain of her bruises, stopped in his tracks, staring at her sorrowfully.
'Moon?" He called.
Looking at his pitiful face and saddened voice, she was almost confused but she wrote it off her brain.
Giving him that thick hate stare still, she turned around and left him standing there.
With her head bent, her eyes only seeing the floor, and her right hand holding her pained left hand, she ran once she felt she was out of his sight.
She kept running till she hit the stars only to bump into something soft. No, it wasn't something; it was a person.
Stopping to offer her apology and keep moving, she bowed only to hear. 'I see you have had your feel of him tonight."
With eyes widened and tears streaming freely from them, her head shot up to see Diana's mocking gaze.
'I didn't…"
'You knew you couldn't pass the gate, so why did you try?" Diana asked taking Moon's throbbing hand into hers.
'I…"
'So you can gain his attention right?" Diana asked, and with that, her slender finger pressed on the thick red line on Moon's hand.
Biting her lips so hard to avoid yelling out in pain, Moon held onto the banister for the sake of her life, twisting this way and that but not able to withdraw her hand from Diana's tight grip.
'Answer me!" She commanded.
Moon who could taste blood from her lips, shook her head forcefully, tears still flowing and her puffy eyes almost closing in on her.
'I don't do well with signs Moon. Use your words." Diana said, licking her lips at every sigh of pain Moon gave.
'I… I didn't do it to… to gain his atten…"
'As if." Diana snickered cutting her shut.
Leaving Moon's hand and clapping her hands together, Diana looked at the girl whose pain was pure and open.
'You have overstepped your boundaries this time, better watch out."
