'I heard of the kidnap of your daughter." The head guard said, approaching them.
'No, it's fine." Joana sniffed in the non-existent liquid in her nose.
'We would want to be left alone for a while," Steve said grimly and the guard bowed.
'The Alpha and the council of elders await you in the Alpha's court." He said before turning away.
'We will respond in a bit."
'Are our packages ready?" Steve whispered to his mate, after responding to the guard.
'Yes, they are." Joana's head bobbed in response so it looked like she was getting consoled by her mate.
'Good, we move tonight." He showed her his hand and she held on to it. 'Let's go see what they have to say."
On entering the solemn courtroom, Joana and Steve picked their place at the front and sat on the empty stool.
Not quite long after, the double doors were opened again by the doormen; Beta Rex, Ria, and their pathetic son, who was in between them and held by both parents, emerged.
Bowing in front of the Alpha, the Beta, and his mate let go of Aiden, and his knees bumped into the floor.
'I heard from her." Alpha Rex started, pointing toward a direction.
It was difficult for Aiden to turn his head, but he still did; he saw Diana seated among the others.
'Everything she said is true my Alpha." Aiden, who now sat on his legs, said slowly and quietly.
'How was my daughter? Was she gagged? Did you see her?" Joana put on her acting skills.
'Beta Stones, gather the guards, she needs to be rescued. If he resists, attack."
The Beta cleared his throat and stood up with an air of authority.
'She is mated to him."
'That's not the right way to go about it." Alpha Rex's face twisted in disgust.
'May I inform us all and you, the Alpha of the Silverstone pack, that the dreaded Alpha Liam is the son of Victor, the ex-Gamma of the Silverstone pack." Beta Stones walked out to stand in the middle of the court.
Silence fell in the courtroom as Beta Stones' eyes scanned everyone's face, from shock to confusion, then a static expression.
'I would also like to remind the council that the oath between Victor and our Alpha stops him from hurting Victor and his descendants."
Joana and Steve, who had no idea of these things, stared on in confusion.
'But the Alpha would not go after him, he would be sending the guards," Steve said.
'In the name of the Alpha." Stones completed, eyeing Steve.
'This is my daughter we are talking about…" Joana pitched, her face sagged.
'What would happen if he does?" Steve asked again.
'He dies." Ria deadpanned and the silence returned.
The Alpha sat on his seat, clenching his jaws. He could not understand why he felt this angst about the kidnapping of the girl who looked a lot like his dead mate.
Was his life worth saving her for? They are mated, surely, the moon goddess must have a reason for pairing them up.
Alpha Rex convinced himself to let it go; she was not worth doing all this for. His mate died along with the baby in her womb and there was no way a weak wolf would belong to him.
'For the sake of the oath, let her be." Alpha Rex declared in the silent court, his voice boomed.
Sniffles were heard as Joana fell on her mate's chest to cry her eyes out; he did the job of parting her back and whispering words to her. To everyone watching, there were comforting words.
'Make your act as real as possible." Steve, whose reddened eyes scanned the room, whispered to his mate, and from sniffles, her muted cries evaded their ears.
'Get your shoulders to shake." He whispered again, but instead of listening to him, she pinched him hard on the chest, making him hiss in pain.
'Additionally, no one in the Silverstone pack is allowed to visit her, she is excommunicated from this pack. Anyone who does defies this, will get kicked out of the pack." Alpha Rex concluded.
Right before them, he stood up, turned into his wolf form, and walked out of the courtroom with everyone bowing at his exit.
The sober couple left first, if their shoulders were slumped before, their whole body looked boneless now. The rest filed out one after the other till the kneeling Aiden, the injured Diana, the unfeeling Lilian, the standing Beta Stones, the cross-legged Ria, and the seated Nova and Mateo were left in the room.
Aiden, who had silently cried his eyes out, not because of the pain he was going through but because of the proclamation from the Alpha and his fate after, now went back to lying on his belly.
'Stand! You weakling." Beta Stone frowned but Aiden didn't move a muscle.
Ria, who knew what was coming, signaled the guards to step out, and they did after giving a bow. They needed some privacy.
'I think he is better this way. Let him rest Stones." Diana said.
Aiden, who heard him address his father by his name, felt his chest rumble. Who did she think she was? Not wanting to devein her pity, Aiden struggled to sit up.
'Lay back down." She told him but Aiden ignored her words.
He struggled till he could sit properly before dragging himself to lean on a chair for support.
The Beta and his mate watched Aiden's action with curiosity and when he finally made it to his butt, they smirked with approval.
'Aiden, you know we work for Alpha Victor right?" Mateo started on the approval of Beta Stones.
Already knowing what was coming, Aiden closed his eyes to avoid seeing any of their faces.
'Yes, I do." He responded weakly and slowly.
'I also know…Diana is the daughter of Alpha Victor … and my fated partner."
'I know that, you and you…" Aiden opened his badly swollen eyes and directed his gaze at Mateo and Nova.
'…are just paid actors." He held his tummy as he coughed up blood.
'You don't get to call them that. They are my parents regardless." Diana added she had a frown sitting on her face.
'You don't get to address my father that way, he is above your level. Show some fucking respect." Aiden challenged, staring right at Diana.
Clapping to interrupt the atmosphere, Beta Stones came in between the line of vision of his son and Diana.
'There are no more secrets…" He started but got interrupted.
'Except there is."
'Except there is."
Diana and Aiden said together and found a way to glare daggers at themselves.
