Chapter 11

Walking down the hallway with Diana, I try my best to restrain my anger. Moon's disappointed face keeps popping up in my head all through the awkwardly silent walk to the skies knows where.
'You are not talking Aiden." I hear her disgustingly sweet voice.
I pay her no mind, silently wishing I had the strength to resist the temptation of strangling her later.
When we reach an open space close to the gate, she stops, and I do, too, already hating the fact that I had to follow her. Her hidden agenda isn't too hidden.
She faced me and I did but hardly looked at her for a little more than a minute or two before finding another place to keep my gaze at. She searches my face, probably looking for a little crack to pound on and expand.
'Aiden." She purrs.
She is suddenly gentle and soft-spoken, not like the devil I encountered a few minutes ago right in front of my doorstep. This annoying ‘thing'.
I am tempted to look at her face. I almost give a loud laugh but hold back myself, only giving a chortle instead, prompting her to frown a little before easing her frown into an irritating smile.
'Is that meant to seduce me?" I ask her.
I could not believe what she did next. She started wringing her hands, and her eyes were no longer determined or strongly focused on my face; they became shaky, and her lips kept folding in and loosening.
'What is this? Is the almighty Diana nervous?" I taunt with a lopsided smile.
I see her eyes widen before looking around to see if a passerby caught that.
'I have no time to waste."
I warn her, my eyes darting around in search of what to lean on, and seeing a pole not too far from our current position, I moved to lean my back on it, closing my eyes to hear her while my mind kept tormenting me with the image of the Moon on the floor.
'I…"
Okay? What's with the pause?
Opening my eyes, I see her in a pensive mode.
'You?"
'I saw you guys out here." She says in a hurry which had my brows lifting in question.
'So?" I ask and the look on her face is incredulous.
What was she expecting?
'Is that the reason you called me out here?" I ask her, getting ready to move back inside. I have some more important things to do than standing out here in the open while spending time with her.
'You have a thing for Moon, don't you?"
I looked at her with a bored expression, something I didn't try too hard to hide.
'How is that any of your business?"
'You know how ridiculous it is and what people will…"
'Goodnight," I say, already finding my way out.
'Wait!" She calls after me, but I pay her no mind as I keep walking a bit too fast because I need to do something before the night ends.
It is no surprise she catches up to me and holds my hand in a strong grip to keep me in place.
'Hear me out."
I stand still with her back to her face, my hands going into my pockets to stop me from doing anything stupid.
'I love you." She finally confessed.
'Did you not hear what I said?" She asks, her voice shaky with anxiety and something else I can not identify.
'I love you more than she does. We can date in the open without judgmental stares, at least I am on par with you in terms of…"
Since her first words, I had been struggling to hold back my laughter. Now she continues with all these unbelievably cheesy words; I can't help it; my mouth gives way to barks of laughter, and I double over, clutching my belly.
'I confess my feelings to you and this is how you treat me?" She said with the voice I recognize, not the irritating one she used moments ago.
Fighting to regain hold, I straighten up and look at her. Her eyes are red, alongside her cheeks and neck. Her hands were folding and unfolding; I knew she would not hesitate to give me a blow in the face if she had to.
'I don't love you," I say and watch with delight as she closes her eyes to gain control over her emotions.
'Don't ever disturb Moon, she has done nothing wrong to you," I warn and turn to leave.
Her sudden burst of laughter stops me in my tracks; she isn't just laughing; she is howling, a weird kind of laughter, and I sense something malicious in it.
'You dare to reject my love and how you warn me about her?" She asks in-between laughter.
Walking to stand before me, I see her dab her teary eyes looking like she had just heard the joke of the century.
'You are so foolish." She says and my jaw clenched.
'You know you can't love her, you are not allowed to. Yet you keep protecting her."
She isn't done.
'Fine, reject me all you want and watch me spill her secret and yours to the others." She threatens.
'Make sure to force them into believing you."
'Oh please, it isn't that." She says with a glint in her eyes, a kind of look I can decipher as mischief.
'What do you mean?" I ask, stepping closer to her in a bid to intimidate her.
'Do you think you are the only one who knows about her escapes from the pack house every evening to see another…man?"
At the mention of another, my fingers found their way to her throat. This is bad; I can't let her spread the news of Moon's visits to Liam; it would get her in trouble and get me into more serious trouble.
'You are a fool Aiden." She talks still, even with my hands wrapped tightly around her throat.
'Don't you dare say this out," I warn.
'Or what?" She replies, not fazed with my hand already choking her and my eyes glaring at her.
I so much wish to wipe the annoying smack out of her face.
'Stop trailing Moon."
'Pathetic. Nice try but wrong. Why would I trail her, she isn't worth my time and effort." Diana says, taking advantage of my absentmindedness and kneads my stomach with her knee.
'Watch out dear lover boy." She says, and the next thing I hear is her fast-paced, receding footsteps.
With hurried steps that lead in a run, I approach the place my legs have always wanted to be at and a door that my hands have always wanted to knock on.
*Knock, knock.* But there was no response, and I opened it wide with my heart in my throat; what if something bad happened to her?
