The woman,clinging to Ethan,pinched her nose,asked for him to get away from me.
That voice—the intern from his call.
“This is my girlfriend,Lana Brooks,”Ethan announced loudly,as if presenting a celebrity.
I rolled my eyes,telling them to move out of the way.
“A janitor talking to me like that?”Lana sneered,flaunting her necklace.
It looked familiar—maybe from an ad?
Eager to settle into my new place,I tried to walk around them.
Lana stuck out her leg to trip me.
I stomped her foot hard.She shrieked.
Ethan steadied her,shoving me.“Jasmine,don’t blame Lana for our breakup.She’s a perfect princess—pure and innocent.I fell for her ages ago.Look at yourself—do you really think you can compare?”
Classic gaslighting.
I dropped my bags and slapped him.“So,you were cheating on me with an intern before we broke up,then tried to trick me into being your free maid?And you’ve got the nerve to talk to me like this?Do you want me to put your story on a billboard at TechTower?”
He stumbled backward,hitting a palm tree,trapped.
Lana huffed at his pathetic state.
Ethan stomped,his neck turning red with anger,yelling,“Jasmine,you’re broke and still talking big.Apologize to Lana,or you’re out of a job.”
Lana crossed her arms,tossing her hair smugly.
“Why should I?”I asked,genuinely puzzled.
“Because these five buildings belong to Lana.One word from her,and you’re out on the street,”Ethan bragged,practically crowing.
If these were Lana’s,what were my property deeds and stamped documents I had?
But I wasn't going to waste my time arguing.
I grabbed my bags,heading in,then turned around.“Tell her to fire me.Let’s see what happens.”
A security guard jogged over from the booth,respectfully opening the gate for me.
Ethan's mouth dropped open in shock.
Lana purred,“Your ex is shameless,flirting with guards.”
Ethan spat,“No wonder she’s in Elite Gardens.Sleeping with the security staff.”
“Lana,get her fired for this.”
Lana paused,then laughed.“Brother Heng,I’m feeling generous.For you,I’ll let it go.”
“Oh,what about that investment your cousin proposed?Lots of people are dying to get in, but he's saving a spot for you because of me."
After kissing Ethan goodbye,Lana walked into Elite Gardens.She lived here too.
