My mind, now clear, screamed:Lucas was shameless, defying all ethics to claim me.
I wasn’t some object to be possessed.
I slapped him hard.
His face turned, half in shadow.I couldn’t see his expression, but it was grim.
I fled to my room, trembling, clutching my plush dog, rocking it.
“Why does everyone hurt me?I’m so miserable. What should I do?”
Moonlight lit the dog’s eyes, giving me my answer.
Thirsty at midnight,I crept downstairs for water.
A strange sound came from Lucas’s room, the door ajar.
Curiosity pulled me closer.
Through the crack,I saw Lucas, shirtless, his body moving rhythmically. His breaths were low, a mix of pain and pleasure.
“Lily…my sweet Lily…”
He was…pleasuring himself,calling my name.
My mind spun, and something inside me snapped. I ran away as fast as I could.
Caleb showed up at the mansion, pulling me to see a new movie.
As we reached downtown, snow fell—first snow.
Flakes melted in my palm.
Caleb stood beside me,in a camel coat, tall and elegant.
Snow dusted his hair, his brows, tinged with sorrow.
On impulse,I kissed his cheek.“For the movie.”
He touched the spot, blushing like a sunset.
I giggled,skipping ahead.
In the shadows,Lucas watched,eyes bloodshot,fists clenched.
The snow thickened.
Back home,an overwhelming sense of unease washed over me, as if something terrible was about to happen.
Bang.
The door burst open.
Lucas,reeking of alcohol,staggered in.
I backed away until I reached the window, eyeing him warily.
His pained eyes met my caution.“Lily,do you even have no heart? So shameless, you’ll take any man?”
“You’re drunk,Lucas.”
“Drunk?Three years in the hospital, and you still haven’t learned?I hate you getting close to other men.”
He laughed, eyes red, cornering me,his bitter whiskey breath stinging.“If anyone can have you,why not me?”
Lucas,in pain?He thrives on others’ suffering.
“Your so-called love disgusts me,”I spat,pushing him.
My words seemed to break something in him. He pinned my arms down, his hot body pressing against mine, covering my face with rough kisses.
A wave of nausea washed over me.I kneed his groin.
He groaned,and I broke free,flinging open the window.Cold wind roared in,curtains billowing.
In the inky night, snow glowed like lonely fireflies.
I met his eyes, resolute.“Lucas, your love sickens me.I’d rather die than be with you.”
I jumped out of the window.
Landing in the snow,I stared at the starless sky, blood pooling beneath me,a red wave.
