Has Lucas put him up to it?
The thought made my heart ache.
I confronted Nathan after school in an empty classroom.
As dusk fell,he smirked,arms crossed.
“Was it Lucas?”I demanded.
He dodged,sneering,“Your mom’s a mistress.That’s obvious.Why deny it?”
“A mistress’s daughter should know her place. How dare you question me? Shameless.”
I glared,chest heaving,demanding he stop slandering Mom.
He laughed,taunting,“When your mom played mistress,forcing Lucas’s mom to her death,where was your outrage?Don’t be a hypocrite,Lily.”
“Stop insulting her,”I warned.
He leaned in,venomous.“You and your mom are shameless,disgusting,low-life mistresses.”
Something inside me snapped.
The words—shameless, disgusting, mistress—exploded in my mind.Rage consumed me.
When I came to my sense,Nathan was on the floor, blood pouring from his head like a cracked melon, groaning.
Paramedics rushed him away.A clipped video of me attacking him spread online.
The story changed overnight.I went from a mistress’s daughter to a violent, deranged bully.
Nathan’s parents stormed the school, accusing me of assault, demanding jail time.
The principal called Mom and told her about my “crime.”
She rushed in,yanking my clothes, slapping me to the floor, screaming that I always caused trouble, wishing she’d never had me,wanting me dead.
Her blows didn’t hurt as much as the words. My heart felt like it was shattering into a million pieces.
She kicked my knees, forcing me down.“Kneel and apologize!”
Pain stabbed my chest, tears threatening, but I held them back, meeting her eyes.“Why don’t you ask what happened?”
My question only enraged her.She shrieked that the video humiliated her, glaring at me like I was her enemy, her life’s stain.
I knelt before Nathan’s parents.
That moment,I learned a heart can die without tears.
