I was all too familiar with this name.Sylvia,Ethan's first love, who was also the person he had kept in his heart for many years. She was irreplaceable in Ethan's heart and the biggest threat our marriage.
Ethan fell in love with Sylvia during his freshman year of college, and my love for him could only be buried deep in my heart and take root there.I didn't wish for anything moreand just silently watching their relationship as a bystander. In their sophomore year,Sylvia broke up with him and then went abroad to study, and their relationship ended just like that.

I thought that my years of efforts had finally paid off in the eighth year since I met Ethan.I thought that marriage would be the catalyst for our relationship. But on the first day of our marriage,Ethan said to me,"Amelia, you used all kinds of means to drive Sylvia away, and now you've finally become my wife as you wished. Are you satisfied?"
That wasn't the truth, but Ethan didn't believe my explanation. He thought that I was the one who caused Sylvia to leave him. What was even more cruel was that our years of friendship vanished completely after we got married, replaced by his coldness.
Our marriage was like a one-man show with me as the only actoe.
In the second year of our marriage,Sylvia came back. And Ethan came home even less often.I heard that he had found a place for Sylvia to live, that he occasionally went to watch her musical ,and that when Sylvia was sick,Ethan immediately cut short his business trip abroad and came back to take care of her.And these were things that he had never done for me.
I had quarreled with Ethan many times because of Sylvia. In fact,it was mostly me unilaterally venting my grievances and dissatisfaction, while Ethan never took it seriously.I remembered him saying,"Marrying you was my biggest concession.Don't expect things that you don't deserve."
...

Pulling myself back to reality,I heard Ethan answering the phone in a gentle tone,a tone that I rarely heard in those three years. The woman's voice on the other end of the phone was both plaintive and a bit coquettish.I vaguely heard Sylvia say,"Ethan dear, when are you coming over? You promised to celebrate my birthday with me."
Ethan looked at the time and replied,"I'll come over and be with you as soon as I finish dealing with things."
The next moment, the call was interrupted, and another call came in,and it was my number.
Ethan answered the phone quickly. Before the person on the other end could speak he open his mouth:"Amelia, what are you up to this time?Do you even know what time it is now?"But before he could finish,Ethan's expression froze.

"You're Amelia's husband, right? The lady has just been in a serious car accident. Please come to the hospital immediately."
I remembered thatEthan’s number was still named “husband” in my phone, and I hadn't even had the chance to change it.
I couldn't see Ethan's expression clearly,or rather,he didn't seem to have any expression at all.He just maintained the posture of holding the phone for a long time, not reacting.
I had imagined countless times what would happen if I died one day.Would Ethan regret anything?Would he be sad?But those speculations had long been dispelled after he had hurt me over and over again.
Looking back now,I just thought that I was so stupid to have imagined those things.
I followed Ethan to the hospital. All the way,he still had that expressionless look on his face.I pursed my lips.He was even colder than I had expected. But his hand holding the steering wheel was trembling slightly.
Arriving at the hospital again, the depressing environment greeted me as always.I had never liked the smell of disinfectant, and now I couldn't smell it anymore.
When Ethan arrived, the doctors announced that the time of my death. They comforted him to try not to be too upset while leading him to identify my body.He lifted the cloth covering the body, and my face came into view.
