My sister-in-law,Charlotte Hayes,is a entitled brat. On the first anniversary of my marriage to my husband, she deliberately shot fireworks at my hair, disfiguring my face. Afterward, she cowered in my husband’s arms, whimpering with feigned innocence,“Why are you so mad?I didn’t mean it,Ethan!”
When I demanded justice,my husband,Ethan Hayes, accused me of being petty and targeting his sister. Because of my disfigurement,I lost my job.Ethan began to resent me and divorced me. In the end,I died alone in my home,my body left unclaimed. Given a second chance,I was transported back on the day my face was burned. “Emily Carter, that ring is gorgeous.I’ve always wanted one like it,sweetie,”Charlotte’s voice purred in my ear, startling me. In the mirror,my face was flawless,my makeup was perfect—no trace of the horrific scars from my past life.
I glanced around. It was the scene of my wedding anniversary with Ethan. In my past life, this was the day Charlotte intentionally ignited my hair with fireworks. The flames engulfed my face as I writhed in agony.Through the fire,I saw Charlotte hiding behind Ethan, her face alight with malicious delight. Ethan rushed to help me but was held back by Charlotte, who clung to him, crying,“I’m scared, sweetie!Don’t go!” He shielded her, ensuring the flames didn’t touch her, only calling an ambulance when I was nearly unconscious, after the fire died down.
My face and scalp were severely burned. When I demanded Charlotte file a police report, she pouted in Ethan’s arms,“I didn’t mean it,sweetie! You’re scaring me!” Ethan scolded me,“It was an accident,Emily. We’re family—can’t you let it go?Why are you so selfish?” After my disfigurement,Charlotte relentlessly urged Ethan to divorce me,claiming I was not fit to be his wife.I was thrown out. I died alone in a cramped Seattle apartment on a rainy night,my body rotting undiscovered. In my past life,Charlotte ruined me,and the loneliness of my death, coupled with the agony of my burns, fueled my burning hatred. Thankfully, fate gave me a second chance.I was back before the fire, and I’d make Charlotte pay. “Emily?”Charlotte waved a hand in front of me.“I love that ring.Hand it over, sweetie.” She grabbed for the diamond ring on my finger, trying to yank it off. I shoved her hand away, glaring.“This is from my husband. Do you want one?Get your own husband to buy you one.” Charlotte was stunned.I’d always been compliant before. “What, think you’re special because you’ve got a husband? It’s my brother’s money you’re spending, you shameless gold-digger” Charlotte had been married years ago but divorced on grounds of domestic violence. Since then, she’d fixated on Ethan. Every date Ethan and I went on,Charlotte tagged along. She constantly demanded things from me,and I always gave in. Whenever Ethan gifted me something,Charlotte would throw a tantrum,“I want one too, sweetie!” Eventually,Ethan started buying her identical copies of my gifts. Before our wedding,Ethan told me,“Charlotte’s my only sister. She’s struggled with mental health issues. When you marry me,you need to respect her.” I didn’t take it seriously at first. But on our wedding night,Charlotte demanded to share our bed. “Ethan and I shared a bed as children. Why can’t I now that you’re married?” When I refused, she faked a midnight crisis, claiming a stomachache.I got up to make her tea,but she knocked it over, clinging to Ethan.“I don’t want you, sweetie.I want Ethan!” Ethan comforted her,and told me to go back to bed. That night,he stayed in her room, leaving me alone. Previous Chapter
