Margaret was taken aback and immediately contradicted me. "That's impossible. Then where did Claire’s baby come from?"
"You'll have to ask her about that."
I glanced at Claire's stomach. "I've kept some of Nathan's hair. When the baby's born, how about we do a DNA test. If it's his, you get the money. If not, I'll sue you for plotting my murder."

Margaret agreed without hesitation, but Claire looked unsure.
Sure enough, a few days later, Claire secretly went to the hospital to terminate her pregnancy.
When Margaret saw her empty belly, she fainted onto the ground, finally realizing the truth.
After the abortion, Claire sold off some of the jewelry she could find in our house and slinked away.
Margaret, upon waking up, couldn't bear the loss of her son and the absence of her grandson, and eventually she descended into madness then and there.
Now I had power to decide her fate.

Without hesitation, I had Margaret committed to a mental hospital, paying for 20 years upfront, ensuring she would spend the rest of her days there.
As for Claire, I wasn't about to let her off the hook. I reported the missing items to the police immediately.
During their investigation, the police found worse—chat logs of her and Nathan plotting my death.
For her multiple crimes, she ended up with getting 20 years in prison.

My husband was dead, my mother-in-law was insane, my best friend was behind bars, and I was left to live a happy life alone with my unexpected fortune.
