"Won't all this lawyer stuff cost a fortune?"
I still couldn't wrap my head around the idea that my boyfriend was loaded.
Then he handed me his driver's license.
There it was, plain as day—
Owner: James Carter.
Reality finally crashed down on me like a ton of bricks.
Everything he'd said was true.
But why had he lied to me?
Suddenly, I remembered his strange question that morning—
"Sophie, if someone lied to you—for a good reason—could you forgive them?"
I honestly didn't know.
"Why did you lie to me all this time?" My voice barely above a whisper.
"I'm sorry, Sophie. I was wrong to deceive you."
"I'm sorry, but I know how much you despise wealthy people."
"I'm sorry, but I couldn't bear to lose you."
"And I still have no intention of letting you go."
