Chapter 44

Aiden's POV

I knocked on Moon's door with unease, I felt like I was being watched. The plan had to change; I didn't bring the food to her room, I hid the plate of food around the Pack's forest, and I was sure no one would watch her go there.

On the third knock on her door without a response, I assumed she still didn't want to talk to me and twisted the doorknob, but it turned out it wasn't even close. It opened with a little push.

Her room was empty, just the way I left, with the difference in the position of the letter.

'Moon?" I had called her softly just in case she was in the bathroom.

'Moon?" I knocked on the bathroom door but it just gave way to an empty bathroom without Moon.

On the thought of Diana causing another round of havoc, I rushed out of her room as if in a daze. I wanted to ask about the whereabouts of Moon to the pack members I came across, but I knew it would come off as weird, so I kept quiet, allowing my eyes to roam around in search of Moon.

I finally saw one of Diana's friends, Becky; she was just walking around aimlessly, seemingly lost in deep thoughts.

'Becky?" She jumped and I saw fright in her shaky eyes.

'Where is Diana?" I asked her, taking hold of her arm as I stared intently at her.

She swallowed before pointing a wobbly finger in a blank direction. Then I knew something was wrong.

'Take me there. NOW!" She flinched before nodding her head vigorously.

She led the way toward the direction of the pool, and I swallowed, dreading the thought in my head. The pool? Did Diana manipulate her towards the pool or did Moon find her way down there?

Stopping in an inconspicuous space, she looked at me and I understood she couldn't go further than that.

Becky had always been different, and I had always wondered why she had to associate herself with the likes of Diana until I was put in her shoes, always only having to obey the directives of my parents over my desires.

Nodding at her, I peeked and had my spittle go down the wrong pipe. Holding my coughs brought tears to my eyes but I kept watching.

Moon squatted close to the pool, her long gown covering her legs and a broom close to her and there was Diana, in red heels, a black skimpy gown, nails painted in red. Her steps were slow and full of bad motives.

I wasn't directly in front of her but I could feel the murderous aura from her. What was she about to do?

I thought of directly running in there and shielding Moon from her but I could not risk my dad's hearing more of my infatuation for Moon from her, I would be done for.

I watched Moon still stare at the pool having a melancholic aura around her, oblivious to the she-devil behind her

I watch Moon's body tense, she was barely breathing and I felt pain for her. I forgot Becky was behind me till sniffed, startling me.

Together, we watched Moon shift uncomfortably as Diana stopped right behind her. My head played the worst scenario and Becky confirmed the thoughts in my head.

'What if she pushes her in?" Becky whispered, her voice trembling, she was too.

I shifted my eye to get a little view of her face and her eyes were wide in terror. She had a hiccup, her lips agape.

'Let's hope not," I said drily, I knew Diana was capable of doing it.

I didn't hear what she asked Moon but the abruptness of Moon's action kept me on my toes. When she fell, my heart went out for her.

'Should I scream?" Becky asked again and at the last minute, I held myself back from throwing a punch.

I needed to get used to her hiding behind me and whispering to me.

'No, I think that will be risky for anyone, let alone you," I whispered back, not taking my eyes off Diana as she began to cackle like the devil himself.

I felt an irksome pinch on my back. It was Becky; she was terrified, and so was I. In the process of grabbing a handful of my clothes to keep her steady, she grabbed my flesh too. I had to bite back the pain.

I closed my eyes for a bit, and the painful 'ouch!" from Becky made me open them in alert, thinking she was attacked or something, but when my eyes met the scene right in front of me, I gritted my teeth in annoyance.

My wolf was beginning to get troubled and needed to be let out. I stepped forward, my eyes burning into Diana's tightened claws on Moon's hair, I could feel the pain of her action on my scalp.

‘Don't you dare! I can sense you, you know.' Her voice rang in my head and I felt chills wash over me.

On instincts, I pushed Becky back, maybe I was too rough, but I didn't care; she needed to preserve her life.

Taking my hand behind me, I showed her my palms hoping she understood my sign of telling her to stay hidden.

I was determined to flaunt her orders but I wasn't prepared for the pain that shot through me. I found my feet rooted in the ground and the more I resisted, the more the pain increased.

My eyes watered as I watched her struggle to be free but I didn't let it drop. I secretly cheered her on, hoping something would happen to stop Diana's madness or somehow Diana herself would stop this madness.

I watched on, and when I saw Moon give up struggling, I yelled, but my mouth wouldn't open. My wolf howled in pain as I fought against the invisible chain holding me down.

Diana pushed Moon into the pool with a splash and my eyes widened. What was I to do?

A part of me cheered when Diana also fell into the water from Moon's grip.

After the fall, it was quiet, the pool still along with my heart. I didn't dare to breathe till I saw the unrest in the pool. At least she was still struggling. I didn't know how long this would last, but Moon didn't look too strong to withstand this struggle for a longer period.

At this vital moment, Becky let out a shrill howl; I knew she had to transform into her wolf to avoid her voice being noticed by Diana.

Just after Becky's howl, something nudged at me. It was Becky's snot but I couldn't move, and I couldn't tell her that. She ran off on the sound of hurried footsteps. She needed to leave before she was seen by the rest, and I understood.

Knowing she was caught, Diana started playing the victim, pretending not to know how to get out of the water. Seeing her act filled my heart with hot rage, I was sure it would burst at any moment.

I made to move, and I did; she freed me.

‘Save me and don't try anything funny.' She said in my head, stopping me in my tracks.

I watched the pool get crowded; Moon swarmed her way out, collapsed by the pool, and began to shiver. I prayed someone offered her a towel at least, but no one did.

Out of anger, I moved to find a towel or some cloth of any sort for both of them, at least not to be put on the spot, only to find my leg walking towards the opposite direction, right into the pool, to save Diana.

‘Resist me if you dare.' She threatened but wrapped her hand over my neck.

Hardening my resolve not to look at Moon, I followed Diana's directive and kept her beside Moon, offering her a towel even when knowing Moon deserved it more. It was painful.

I carried her up after she was done, hoping to get out of there, but at the guard's question, she spun a lie that made my blood boil. At the continuity of her false accusations, I made myself shut my ears to keep myself calm.

'Put me down." She ordered, and I gladly did, her fake weakness making my stomach churn; I refused to pay attention to anything after that, but when she said, 'I have helped you, you see? So you will be at my beck and call henceforth for a month." My teeth ground themselves in frustration, and I became adamant.

But as usual, she got into my head, controlling me like she would. At her 'Aiden Dear, I'm cold." I found myself by her side.

I looked at Moon's pitiful face, not hiding the emotions in my eyes as I bent it to pick Diana just like she wanted.

'You must believe me, Moon; I don't want to do this," I said but I couldn't hear myself.

‘You are delusional.' Diana cackled.

Still carrying her in a bridal style past the eyes of different persons, my anger could no longer be contained, I was literally shaking, and I had to fasten my pace to her room.

On kicking her door open, I dump her on the bed but instead of wincing in pain, she laughed, kicking her red heels away.

'How was that for a start?" She tilted her head, studying me.

'I know you are mentally unstable but that…" I pointed towards the door and paused, calming my fast breath.

'That was extreme."

'Hhmmm." She nodded, lying back down on her bed.

'I love the review, you should anticipate more." She yawned and I yelled.

'Come here."

'You wish!" Aiden walked away briskly, afraid of being forced to do what he didn't want to but Diana's abrupt jump kept him in place.
