Chapter 263

Bertha didn't give him a chance to explain, she used the force of her elbow to hit him in the stomach again.

Taking the opportunity that he was still holding his stomach in pain, Bertha quickly took his hand off.

The moment their eyes met, the air seemed to freeze for two seconds.

Bertha looked at his face in amazement.

Except for the identical eyes, almost all the features on his face had changed. His whole face only had four or five parts similar to Derek's. She didn't dare to look closely anymore.

But his eyes, his every little gesture could not deceive her.

He's Derek.

'Why is your face so different? You're wearing a leather mask, right?" She grabbed his face, trying to tear off his disguise.

Shane squeezed her small hand, speaking seriously. "Because I'm Shane, I've always been Shane."

"I don't believe it. You had plastic surgery, right? Do you think that if you change your face to a different one, I won't recognize you? If you're good, change your eyes."

She was so angry that she gritted her teeth.

But other than the same eyes, she couldn't find any more definitive evidence than Shane's face.

Remembering that before the incident, Derek had severe burns and injuries on his back. She broke free from his restraints and pulled up his clothes.

Shane still spoke calmly. "Miss. Bertha, you just met me and took off my clothes, isn't that a bit too fast?"

"Shut up. Turn your back. If you're right then let me check."

"Okay, you can check on me."

Shane lifted his arms so she could roughly remove his shirt.

Even though Bertha had her doubts, she still left room for her to retreat.

Instead of taking off each layer, she pulled up the shirt and vest from the waist.

There were clear lines on his broad back, the middle of his back was smooth, and his honey-colored skin looked extremely beautiful under the effect of the light in the room.

There were no scars, not even deep waist scars on Shane's body when he went up the mountain to look for her and was slashed by Fawn's subordinates.

Bertha's eyes trembled, and she slowly let go, she couldn't believe it and gradually backed away, and just like that, she backed up to the side of the bed.

She sat down on the bed numbly, her mood filled with disappointment.

Her reason also gradually returned.

Derek was dead, she saw with her own eyes his ashes buried in the ground.

Furthermore, Derek and Shane's family backgrounds are so different, that the two of them really cannot be the same.

Her heart clenched in pain as if she had found what she had lost, but then the feeling of despair at losing it again began to well up within her.

But in front of Shane, she tried to hold back her tears.

"I got the wrong person."

Derek breathed a sigh of relief. As soon as he turned his head, he saw Bertha sullen, her whole body exuding a troubled look.

He tried asking. 'Miss. Bertha, you mistook me for your ex-husband, right? Looks like you still have feelings for him?"

Bertha pursed her lips, ignored him, and did not answer.

She stood up, sat back on the sofa, picked up the half-empty bottle of red wine on the table, and poured it straight into her mouth.

"Miss. Bertha."

Shane grabbed her bottle of wine. "If you drink like that, your body won't be able to handle it."

'Our engagement will be canceled sooner or later, Mr. Shane, you should worry about yourself."

Her expression was indifferent, her tone devoid of any emotion. She opened another bottle of red wine but was snatched by Shane.

"If Miss. Bertha wants a drink, I'll drink with you."

Shane sat on the sofa opposite her, filled two glasses of red wine, and Bertha drank both glasses.

Perhaps still angry, she picked up the bottle of wine and drank it down defiantly.

The price she paid was that she got drunk.

Shane looked at her so drunk that her body was shaking. He felt a little sad in his heart. He went around the tea table to take the glass of wine from her hand.

"Don't drink anymore, I'll carry you to bed to rest."

Bertha didn't struggle and let him hold her.

Because the scent on Shane's body is so familiar.

It was eroding her sanity little by little, making it impossible for her to think calmly.

"Derek Tibble."

Shane was about to get up and go to the bathroom to get a towel to help her wipe her face when he heard her calling and he stood frozen in place.

It took him a few seconds before he turned around and looked at Bertha sleeping on the bed in disbelief.

'What did you just call me?"

Derek's mind went blank.

Derek Tibble?

He never thought that this name would come out of Bertha's mouth, did she call the old Derek?

Does this prove that she still has a little bit of feelings for him?

His heart was troubled. He thought for a while, and finally, he decided to gather his courage and speak.

"Bertha, actually I..."

Without waiting for him to finish speaking, Bertha, who was sleeping on the bed, suddenly angrily pulled his wrist.

"Derek. If you dare lie to me again, I will dig you up and beat you a hundred times."

His throat immediately tightened.

He sat down dejectedly on the edge of the bed and thought.

Bertha doesn't love him anymore, he's always known it.

As her ex-husband, his only role seems to be a place for her to blame and vent her anger.

If Bertha knew he had made up a big lie to deceive her, she would surely hate him and never give him a chance again.

His mood was gloomy, he sat quietly on the side of the bed watching Bertha sleep.

This engagement is because he tried so hard to get it. Because the thing he regretted most in his life was divorcing her, he was afraid he would lose her again.

If he confessed, making things worse, it would be better for her to accept the fact that Derek was gone forever.

Let him use Shane's identity to start over with her.
